Eliza Moody - West Yorkshire

Post by JALimestone Plains »

FOR VETTE

g grandmother Eliza Moody living in Halifax over the years from 1883 - 1911, I found out she actually had come from Bridlington or Filey,(from memory) - parents Mr Moody and ms Plewes. None of the 4 children have a father listed, his grandfather was Fred who came to Australia. Tis a brick wall and probably will never find out any father. Fred hasnt got one listed on his birth cert, although his marriage cert says John. Eliza is always head of the family in the census. do you feel like being a slewth?

Another goody, Sarah Viney(nee Dale) sister of my gggrandfather Edwin who was married to Eleanor Rhodes, had a marine shop in the 'Brick Lane' in London.. and they all had lived in the little street behind the corner of Oxford Street and Park lane

I have found a Fred Moody in a family tree on Ancestry.

He married twice. Once to a Minnie Bently Spencer
and the other to a Evelyn Hodgson. But no children are listed

It states that Fred was born in Hailfax 1895 and died in Qld, Australia.

His mother is listed as Eliza Moody, no father, her parents are John
Moody and Mary Ann Plewes.

The tree is in the name of Staveley Family Tree. Owner Terry Staveley.
Fred doesn't have any children listed
and Eliza has only the one son.

On the tree Eliza is listed as a single mother, all the children are there but for Harriet.

Eliza has several brothers and sisters.

Where did Eliza live in Halifax - 1881 and 1901? There are quite a few churches in Halifax to search on Ancestry. Nothing comes up on FMP parishes.

thankyou, yes Terrence Staverly is a relative of Adrians, and Eliza had lots of brothers and sisters. you have got the right ones. I went on a wild goose chase thinking she was born in Essex. In the 1911 census, when the head of the household finally got a chance to record their information rather than the enumerator, I found out she was born in Bridlington
I dont think that Terrence has his tree quite up to date yet.
I ended up tracing somebody else s family tree all over the country side. then after ordering Freds certs, realised wrong info. The person I was sharing with still decided that she would keep them all (incuding Adrian) anyway lol.

Adresses are

6Westgate Halifax in 1911

15 Nelson Street in 1901

Hodgsons Fold in 1891

no record of 1881 in halifax.

The scandalous part is that Adrians dad had a pic on their wall of his grandfather, Mr Moody. Adrians Uncle told him if it was grandfather , it wasnt Mr Moody x
