Re: William Adams b. abt 1868 Gloucestershire
Mary, so much to look at, I will have a good look at it
when I have more time.
Thaxted does look like a nice place. My dad went when he
was young on holiday to see his cousins. I didn't know this until
a few years ago. I have no idea why I didn't know he had family
there. Oh yes I forgot, he fell out with every one.
Thanks for that Mary
when I have more time.

I have taken the bull by the horns and renewed my Ancestry
subscription. I was getting very frustrated. Its amazing the
information that you have found.
I have only had a little look so far but I did notice that in the 1901
census, an Elizabeth Colley lived next door to William and Ada Colley.
You found a Ada Colley had married William. I would love to be able
to verify that it is the same William. I have also been trying to find
a Jack Adams on the 1891 and 1881 census with out any luck. You
would think that he would at least be on the 1881 census with his parents.
That is assuming that Frederick and Matilda are the correct parents.
Just had a thought. Maybe Frederick left his first wife Ann and Jack
lives with her.
What other name besides John could have been used instead of Jack.?

Re: William Adams b. abt 1868 Gloucestershire
Q, I have looked on FMP and cannot find a Jack or John Adams either for 1881 or 1891 I used ticks for other names on the search but to no avail. I am sure last week I found a John living with a frederick but must not have saved it - I will have another search on Ancestry, as the Lost Cousins site person says sometimes searches do not turn up the same results. Lost cousins is free - all you need to do is put in census results for a couple of census and see if there is a match. Try the 1901 William Adams one - I can sent you an invite to the site if you like.
Good though you have bit the bullet for Ancestry - there is another family tree on there with Cunninghams on it.

Re: William Adams b. abt 1868 Gloucestershire
Hi JA, I have so many pages of possibles it is making me Dizzi
On the 1901 census for William and Ada Adams I have a Jack
Adams Brother. This is the Jack I cannot find.
I think Ada must be the correct 2nd wife for William, she would have been
Ada Colley.
I have been looking for Williams parents, Frederick and Ann Adams.
I cannot find their marriage, but I think Frederick may have been married to
Matilda first, she was Matilda Ramsey, but she had been married before.
I have found a Marriage to Frederick in 1859 have found a death for a Matilda
Adams In Sept qtr 1963 or Sept qtr 1964 I can't find her previous marriage
but I have her on the 1861 census with Frederick and they have 2 sons,
Jospeh Ramsey 9 and Henry Ramsey age 4 listed as son-in-law's, we would
now call them step sons I think.
I have also found a Frederick Adams with the correct birth dates on the 1851
census listed as a son in law to a Samuel and Ann Clift.
On the 1841 census Frederick is listed with mather Ann Adams and 2 more sons John and William.
Now you know why I am Dizzi.
Joan Powell has also sent me am invite to Lost cousins, I think I may have joined
several years ago but I should join again I think.
I have had enough for today, I made a big pan of chicken stock and I am now going
to make it into soup, creamy chicken and leek.
Thanks JA

Q Enjoy your soup, sounds so good
Looks like more of Williams tangled webs.
I have found an 1881 census for Frederick and Martha, no John or Jack - Frederick is a bricklayer so I think that is the 1911 census i just sent you. I forgot I need to go into firefox to downlaod from ancestry so had to log out and then try again with ff in 15 minutes. Back to FMP

Q 1911 census has F and M married for 52 years - she is 10 years older than he. That would make the marriage 1859.

Re: William Adams b. abt 1868 Gloucestershire
Hi JA and LM I am busy this morning, must do the
ironing, will try to get back this afternoon.
LM the 1911 census for Masters, I wonder if that could be
the daughter of Frederick and Matilda.
Also JA I feel that many mistakes were made on Frederick Adams
1911 details. All were given the surname Adams I don't think
they would all be living there. He listed all their children, although
Linda was a bit unusual. Even William was listed as married. But we have
him on another 1911 census.
Oh dear I wish I had never mentioned William Adams. He is a head ache.
