Re: William Adams b. abt 1868 Gloucestershire
I think from memory that my mum told me that her dad
George went looking for his father after he had his own family.
My Aunt Nellie was born in 1917, Mum was born in 1918 and
Aunt marie, the one in Guernsey was born 1924.
I remember mum saying that he didn't make himself known to his father,
who he did find, because he he didn't want to upset his fathers new family,
who had no knowledge of him.
William would have gone back to either Sheffield or Gloucester somewhere between1891
and 1901. I am not sure when Kate and William moved to Bradford They were in Sheffield in 1891
but Kate was in Bradford in 1901.
If William left Kate when they lived in Sheffield, then he would have gone to Gloucester, but if
he moved to Bradford with Kate it is possible that he returned to Sheffield. I haven't found a William
Adams from Gloucester in the 1901 census for Sheffield but I haven't looked at the 1911 census.
I think the one found in Gloucester may be the right one, but its only guess work. I wonder if there is a marriage
to his new wife. If there is that may be the best certificate to buy. That would give his father.
This is turning into a problem, please don't waste your valuable time on it.

I got a reply from Barry White today, only a short one
but he came up with the same info as Mary. William
Adams married Ada Colley in 1897.
This is his email
Hi Sue, after a quick research Kate married a William Adams in Sheffield 1888, and from other peoples research it seems William Adams married an Ada Colley in Gloucester 1897 and had two children with him. I cannot find any record of Kates' other two children, the surving one was not with William Adams or Bernard Cunningham, sorry no luck there. regards Barry.
I think you have probably found the correct William Adams.
Which is really what I set out to find. Maybe I will never find the other two children.
Thanks a lot for your efforts.

Q I have found Marthas mother Sarah Marsden..in the 1851 census..It appears she had been married earlier to a man with the surname of Berry.. as she had a son Joseph Berry..born 1819 Sheffield Yorkshire.. He could be illegitimate making Sarahs maiden name Berry..
and other children
Sarah Marsden born 1834
Martha Marsden born 1837..
Would you like the copy to be sent to you or did you already know all this..
By the way Mother Sarah was born 1795 Birmingham Warwickshire..
Feel very sad for Kate Adams..She did not have a very happy life did she..First her husband leaving her..Then find he is married and has another family, then to get pregnant and have to give up her baby..she must have suffered a great depression to do what she did...I wander if the showman was the father ...I suppose we will never know..

Hi Mary,
No I don't have information about Martha having been married
to a Berry. Was that before Bernard Cunningham.
I have just been looking through my records and I am now even more confused.
I have found a copy of the 1851 census,
Joseph Berry b. 1819 Son
Henry Hyde b 1830 lodger
Martha Marsden b 1836 Daughter
Sarah Marsden b 1795 Head
Sarah Marsden b. 1834 daughter.
Is this the one you found?
And then I found another one but for 1841
From the actual census form.
William Marsden 35
Hannah Marsden 35
George Marsden 15
Robert Marsden 12
Oline? Marsden 8 (girl)
Martha Marsden 4
Hannah Marsden 2
Could be the same Martha
