I am trying to find out what happened to..

William John Hyde b. oct. 1871 in Partick Scotland.
His Father was ..Thomas Henry Hyde b. 1848c Ireland
Mother was.... Douglas B. Burrows b. 1851c Ireland

He seems to have disappeared after 1881 Scottish Census.
The rest of the Family moved to Barrow-in-furness but no sign of William.
I have searched Marriage and death records but no luck at all.
If anyone can help I would be most Grateful. xxx

This is from Ancestry so he appears to have emigrated, Posh.
There is a lady on Scotfamtree (Jenna Craig) who has ancestry USA and may be able to help with the listing.

Just realised there may be copyright issues so will transcribe it.

William John Hyde - immigration - port of arrival New York - on New York passenger lists 1820-1957.

I have a copy of the USA Census for 1910 so will have a look see if he's on it.

I have just seen on Family Search that someone has entered his info on there but it doesn't give a clue as to who. It is the correct William as his Parents check out. With his Mother having an unusual name for female (Douglas) it's easy to check. xxxx

He's not on the 1910 Census - but my disc is for the immigrants. There's always the chance he could have been nationalised by then.
I'll check to see if I can get any info on his immigration.
Is there not a submitter's name on familysearch?

Okay - he arrived on the Ethiopia and was passenger no 162; arrival in New York on 12th July 1887.
However, his age is given as 20 and his nationality Irish! His port of departure was Glasgow, Scotland and Moville, Ireland - no idea which was first. Had 2 items of luggage!
No other Hydes on board.

1920 census has Wm Hyde JR but on the actual image it is just a J so pretty sure it's your man.
Boston Ward 14, Suffolk, Massachusetts.
Wm J Hyde 49 Irish arrived 1882 Nationalised 1887 occ - Teamster City of Boston
Norah Hyde 52 Irish arrived 1881 nationalised 1887
Wm J Hyde 25 Mass occ Assistant in Laboratory
John F Hyde 23 Mass occ Teamster Express

There are inconsistencies here in the date of immigration etc but think it's your one.

Hi Woody,
Thankyou very much for the info. It does look like its him. He would have been barely 16 then when he sailed...I wonder if he maybe fibbed about his age as it was easily done in those days
Again Thankyou for your time xxxxx
