Wilson, a thought, email Gwenda, her dead people are from SA and she should be able to tell you what is on the SA marriage certificates for that period. Worth a try.

Found this on SAHS site
South Australian Marriages 1842-1937
Indexes compiled by the South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society from the
original certificates.
The birth index includes name of the child and parents, date of birth and place of
birth or registration depending upon the information available from the certificate.
The death index includes the name of the deceased, date of death, age, place of
death and details of any relationships indicated on the certificate.
The marriage index includes the names of the bride and groom (cross referenced),
their ages and marital status, the names of the fathers of each, and the date and
place of marriage.
SA Birth Certificates 1842-1856 (Books 1-6)
SA Death Certificates 1842-1864 (Books 1-4)
SA Marriage Certificates 1842-1868 (Books 1-63, 65-75)
Certificates for the period prior to the commencement of the District Registrar’s
Records.
Marriage Partner Indexes 1842-1916
In book/page number order, cross references names of brides and grooms, with
many entries including the marriage date.

looks like nothing you do not know already  No information on occupations - still might be worthwhile asking Gwenda if there is anything about occupations

Been in contact with SA BDM, cost is now $42 :sup
No extra information on cert, same as online.
gives names and fathers of bride and groom where known.
Sometimes ages, often listed as "of age"
and place of marriage. which is what i already have.

http://www.slsa.sa.gov.au/webdata/resou ... 1875_J.pdf

thats the link where i found that departure.

i am having a good dig around as well, not finding much at this stage

bit more info from contact

I have done a bit of a timeline for him from the dates I have on the certificate printouts -

Born - Suffolk, UK abt 1827 (from certificate)

Arrived in Australia - 1855 on Blue Jacket (really not sure on this)

Married - Elizabeth Maynard at home of Eliza Dorrell in Naracoorte, SA on 20 Jan 1860

Arrived in NZ - between 1860 and 1863 as his certificate certificate says he lived in NZ for approx. 45 years and he died in 1908.

Died - 6 October 1908 at Ross, NZ

Occupation - miner

They had three sons -

1. Edward which is my husband's great-great grandfather
He married a lady called Marion Thiele (daughter of German immigrants to NZ) who was also from Ross on the west coast. I have their marriage certificate dated 4 March 1903.

2. Charles - who I know nothing about altho. he was a witness at Edward's wedding to Marion - Charles William Jones, Bushman from Ross

3. ????? but starting to suspect his name may be James.

4. Eliza Ann Jones who married Ernest Ching (from Cornwall - go figure the name!!!) and moved to Wanganui - I have a printout of their marriage on April 10 1897 in Lyttleton, Christchurch.
They moved to Wanganui and are on the electoral roll with their children - one of whom is named Charles Maynard Graham Ching so I am guessing they are the right people!!
She was 22 when she married so that would make her born abt 1874/1875 and she was the youngest.

I spoke to a friend who has done quite a lot of researching and she feels that maybe Elizabeth Maynard left Edward Jones and went back to either Australia or UK or moved to Wanganui to live with her daughter. It could be that she died, however, the fact that she is not in the Ross cemetary seems unusual. I am going to get in touch with someone in Ross area to see if they could have a look at Edward Jones's gravestone and see if it mentions her - you never know your luck!!!!!
......................

something more for me to nut out :D

Thanks so much for helping :bh
