Re: LETITIA'S 1911 CENSUS SEARCH

Post by erich »

Letitia,

This sounds like an offer too good to be true, but I have a problem that this census may assist with please.

I live in Australia. My grandfather's marriage (1913) and death (1939) certificates show him in Australia, but both indicate he was born in Lincoln, England around 1880, and that he migrated to Australia around 1899. His name was Ernest McQuillan Hargraves, and his parents were Francis Hargraves and Mary McQuillan, but I have been unable to find anyone who fits these names in Lincoln. It is possible the parents may show up on the 1911 census (I guess they would have been about 55-60 by then if still alive). If I could locate them, in Lincoln or elsewhere, that would be a good start.

Is this something that fits your kind offer please (if it is still open)?

Thanks

EricH

There are typos in the 2nd transcription, McQuilla is actually McQuillan on the census sheet

I have saved the census sheet(somewhere , my computer is new) I have also advised FMP of the errors

Thanks for those searches. I'm afraid I can't see anyone there who fits the bill, can you? The Ernest Hargraves looks about the right age, but middle initial E isn't correct. And while there are several Mary McQuillans, none seem to be the right age - she would have been Mary Hargraves at most of those dates (I'm guessing they married somewhere around 1875? I guess it shows there were plenty of McQuillans or McQuillins around then even though it's not a common name! Do you have any thoughts?

thoughts,
sometimes the name used on marriage and death certs doesnt match the birth name
they may have moved somewhere else
and also the transription is often different to what the enumerator has interpreted, in turn different form the real thing.

do you have access to find my past or ancestry?

i did find an Ernest in Paddington London 1901. his mother was Mary ann Hargrave (born in Lincoln), but his father was called Green Hargrave.

Dont know Erich, but I'm not the best researcher as I dont have stacks of time

sorry
