I can't do any more on this till Sat when I hope to go my FH place where I should have free access to Ancestry and also the earlier
micro Fisch to check out birth details.

Vonny, have been thinking about Mary.

Do we know how accurate the Gosford, NSW Pioneer Records are?
You would think they would have to be reasonably accurate, at least
for the time spent in Australia. If so, a lot of the other people who
have Mary in their tree must have some wrong information.

Do you have copies of John's criminal record and details of his
transportation and his pardon details etc? I see the ship her arrived
on was the Marquis of Hastings.

Not sure about the accuracy of the Gosford pioneer records, Q

I arrived at my information on Mary via a different route ie her marriage to John Kilminster, by going backwards
from certificates I had and then by buying one child's birth certificate. However - I had never followed up how
she came to be in Australia, but used the information on her death cert which gave her father as Thomas McMahon,
occupation butcher, and her mother as 'unknown' Perry, with her birth place as Limerick.

So all this extra info is new to me.

I think I have found that John's surname is actually
Kilminster. That is the name on the ships list and
all the information points to your John.

I have some more information to email to you if you want me to.
Mostly about the arrival etc. It doesn't say alot, but there is the proof
of it being John.

There is the permission to Mary mary, but they have her as Mary McMann,
I think that is just bad transcribing.

There is another John Kilminster who was transported in about 1820 aboard
the Prince Regent and he married a Rosanna Welsh in 1820. Maybe a relation.
There are actually quite a few Kilminster's who came out as convicts. The John
above was from Birmingham.

Enough for now, I am getting fuzzy headed.

If you get on Ancestry just put in John Kilminster, lived in NSW dob 1808.
All this information comes up.

Thank you Q - yes, i believe John Kilminster 1828 arrival is the right one - I would love just one more piece of info
to cement the relationship though.
1. So far I have Mary saying she was married on a certain date and a certain place and the only marriage that fits is
John Kilminster to Mary McMann (if you say McMahon with a Scottish accent you easily get McMann!!)

2. John Kilminster from the Gosford area did get a ticket of leave around the time of the marriage.

3. By following children's birth places you get a fairly convincing set of proofs linking John and Mary Kimmister
of Blue Gum Flat to John and Mary (pick a spelling) in Liverpool. Especially on Mary's death cert where the daughter
named all the living ones with ages.

However - it doesn't explain how they met, and where Mary came from.

Unfortunately I think John was on the ship for the 1828 census and all the K entries are missing from the next partial
census in the 30's.

Anyone else please jump in if you like

Thank you Q for all your work.

To summarize we have Mary Mullins (parents Edmund and Catherine) marrying Michael McMahon (parents John and Mary) and
coming to Australia on the Nabob in 1842 with their family Michael 13, Catherine 9, Ellen 7 and Thomas 3
Also traveling on the same ship is Edward McMahon 19 and Mary McMahon 17

Mary McMahon marries John Kilminster in 1844 but she may have had his child, Annie, in 1943

I think the way forward is to try and find the marriage of Mary Mullins and Michael McMahon in Ireland possibly Ennis, County Clare
and see if they had two children Edward and Mary before they had Michael!!

Rebs???? JA????? anyone know what we can find in Ireland??

I am hopeless at researching Ireland. Is there a special site to go to
I have been googling, but got no where.

I did find a Death Index on Ancestry for a Catherine Mullins
Estimated Birth 1781
date of registration 1866
Death age 85
Registration district Ennis
Death Country Ireland.

Not having much luck searching for Michael and mary but here is something I did not know before
"The colonial bounty system, to aid would-be immigrants, came into being in 1837 but was revised in 1840. It granted pecuniary aid under certain conditions to persons bringing into NSW from the UK (including Ireland) agricultural labourers, shepherds, tradesmen, female domestics and farm servants. The sum of £38 would be paid as a bounty for any married man, of the above description, and his wife, neither of whose ages on embarkation to exceed 40 years; £5 for each child between 1 and 7 years; £10 for each child between 7 and 15 years and £15 for each above 15 years; £19 would be allowed for every unmarried female domestic or farm servant not below 15 nor above 30 years, coming out under the protection of a married couple as part of a family"
Will keep searching
