I'm on another mission.
Having kicked a hole in a long standing brick wall, it has of course expanded my area of research. My mysterious George Brown has finally been identified as a convict, sent to Tasmania in 1851 aboard the "Rodney."
His indents and other records have him born 1822 in Kent, although I have him born 1820 based on marriage and death certs.
Personal info from convict records have his parents as John and Charlotte. With brothers Charles and William and sisters Elizabeth, Eliza ( same person ??? ) and Charlotte. Native place was listed as Clapham. As of yet I have not been able to find the births for any of them, nor have I been able to track them on a census. George himself should have been on the 1841, but of course was in Australia by the next one.
Georges death cert has his parents as John Brown and Charlotte Cassidy/Cassiday - the informant was wife Bridget.
The birth cert for his last born child states he was born Chapman Common in Kent. The informant was his first born daughter Charlotte. Possibly she mixed Clapham up with Chapman ???
Any suggestions on where to look armed with the above info peoples ???

Re: I'm on another mission.
Quick look on FMP found these for 1820 +/- 2 years. Don't who the Fathers of them were as having problems signing in.
BROWN George 1819 Woolwich Kent
BROWN George 1819 Northfleet Kent
BROWN George 1820 Woolwich Kent
BROWN George 1822 Dartford Kent
BROWN George Aaron 1820 Chatham Kent
BROWN George William Leach 1821 Greenwich Kent
BROWN George Wm Leach 1821 Greenwich Kent
BROWN John George 1822 Greenwich Kent
BROWN John George 1822 Greenwich Kent
On Ancestry John George 1822 Greenwich. His fathers is John but mother listed as Elizabeth, so not likely to be him.
I've heard of Clapham Common but not a Chatham Common which is the only other name I can think of which Chapman Common sounds like.

Re: I'm on another mission.
Thank you darling. Clapham Common is a big help as it shows I'm on the right track with the convict idea. I'm pretty sure it is him anyway, but I need to find the family in a census or some sort of birth details to concrete him in. Ancestry is not co-operating with the cross-matching as yet. Wish it would all just fall into place already, but I guess that is the nature of genealogy, lol
THAT LOOKS PROMISING DIZZ. WILL HAVE TO TAKE A LOOK AND SEE IF ANY SIBLINGS COME UP UNDER THAT BATCH NO. THANK YOU

Protestant, C of E. Think it could be part of the Uniting Church here.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Thank you ladies. Might be worth having a browse through the Dr. Williams Library indexes. Just need to remember where I found them last time I needed them.
