William Adams was my Gt Grandfather.
He married Kate Talford in 1888 and they had a son George in 1891. I did find them all together on the census in 1891, but after that
Kate is on her own. I was told by my mother that William left Kate and George and went back to where he was from, but I am not sure if he went back to Gloucestershire
where he was born or Sheffield where they met and married.
My mother told me that George his son had gone to find him, but I am not sure when this was. He did find his father, with another lady and a young family. Because
of this George never made himself known to his father because he didn't want to upset his new family.
I have a copy of his marriage certificate to Kate Talford, and
the birth certificate of their son, my grandfather George William Adams
The wedding certificate
Married; 23rd Dec 1888; William Adams; aged 20; Batchelor; Telephone lines man; residence 95 Duke St Sheffield: Fathers name Frederick Adams; Bricklayer.
George William Adams Birth certificate:
14th March 1891 father William Adams. Mother Kate Adams Formaly Talford; Fathers occupation Telephone Wire Man
I found William, Kate and George on the 1891 census living at 14 Portobello St,Sheffield. Here his occupation is Telephone Wireman
and birth place Gloucester
I found Kate Adams on the 1901 census as a border living at Laisterdyke Bradford and on the 1901 census living at Hodgson Sq Bradford.
These two will be correct because I know that she lived at Laisterdyke.
I did send for a birth certificate for William Adams but is was the wrong one.
I also believe that Kate's age was wrong on their marriage certificate as it states that she was 18 in 1888, but she was born in 1874, so she would have been only 14.
I did find a William Adams on the 1901 census living in Gloucester with a family and his occupation was telegraphist, which could fit, but his age is slightly out.
Prior to his marriage to Kate I have found a William in Gloucester with a father Frederick, a bricklayer
I would love to find out more about William.
