So the 1841 census must be a different family.
Unusual name for there to be 2 so close together.
I wonder if the Hannah Marsden Died after 1841 and
William Marsden then married a Sarah. Joseph Berry
could have been Sarah's son before she married William.

It would mean trying to find Sarah Berry on the 1841 census.
Did you say she was born in Birmingham?

I think I am going to take out a sub on Ancestry, even if only for 1 month.
We have a lot of expenses at the moment so I can't afford on for the year.

Q This one looks interesting in the 1841 census..nearest one I could find

Sarah Berry age 50
Joseph Berry age 25
Reuben Berry age 20
Alice Berry age 15
Oates Berry age 14

All born Yorkshire and in Registration District of Bradford. Civil Parish of Calverley.

I wander if when she married Marsden the kids all left home bar Joseph and she had a new family of Sarah and Martha..

Ages are out a bit but they always are in the 1841 census..

Q Free BMD have the following

in the marriages for Sept, 1843 in Sheffield ,,there is a Sarah Ann Berry and a Edward Marsden
22. 416

and in Sept 1847 in Halifax there is a marriage for a
Sarah Marsden and a Joseph Whiteley..
22..128
Could these be her 2 marriages..

Its a bit compicated but if Sarah Berry married William Marsden
it would have been after Martha was born and therefore Marthas mother
would have been Hannah and not sarah.
Therefore Joseph would not have been a blood relative of Martha.

I also have Martha Talford marrying a George Whitely in the Dec qtr 1890
in Sheffield. They are on the 1891 census living in John Street.

I think I may need to make a chart

If Sarah married Edward Marsden, then who married William
Marsden.
When I look at the copy of the 1941 census it is actually
difficult to see if the name is actually William.

I'll have a think through too. Many brains make for answers :D I do so like fmaily history puzzles. Hope you don't mind me being involved Q and Lm on the sidelines. I often leave the site open while I am searching so I can go back and forwrd between sites - one of the benefits of windows 7 that you can have a number of tabs open at the same time so one can switch between sites without having to reopen all the time

I must say I am getting back involved in FH now, it has renewed my
appetite for it.
