Re: ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES
LETS GET THIS ROADSHOW ON THE ROAD . .
Just showing off a family heirloom . . .
No chips or cracks . . just a little glaze craze
Belonged to James Boswell 1740 - 1795 (Biographer among other things)
He was born in Edinburgh, and he became Master of Auchinleck House on his fathers death . .
The cup and saucer was given to an ancestor as payment for looking after Boswells sick and aged nanny
There are none of the original crockery pieces left in the house apparently . . someone nicked it all . . .
Must get a valuation one day . . .

Dizzy Darlin . . the crossed swords on the bottom of the cup and saucer is the same as is on the gate into Boswell House, and in the elaborate carvings of the pediment . . . (in Auchinleck Wee Scottieland)Dizzi wrote:LOVE YOUR ANTIQUES,,,,,,,,,THERE BRILLIANT

Re: ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES
In 1591 John Boswell was in trouble with the Privy Council for practicing witchcraft, sorcery and enchantements, consulting with witches and taking part in other Devilish activities. Richie Graham, the most notorious wizard of his day, admitted to having raised the Devil in Auchinleck House. Boswells response to these allegations was to flee the country

A tad before James . . :)
There are some fascinating Boswell stories . .
A long time ago I read Johnsons Biography written by James . . think it must be up home cause it's not here ..
I've never been to Boswell House, but other family members have . . thats on my "to do" list when I get there
